  • Beware Problems and horrible cust service I recently had this installed to replace my factory Jeep Nav Unit. Called the support to ask about two things. One the response time is kind of slow and the light level is VERY high. Especially on the GPS during sundown hours. They walked me through a few things but nothing solved either problem. The service tech suggested upgrading the BIOS since it was a version behind suggesting this may help. I used a USB as instructed on thier site. The unit would load half way then restart never completing the load. Also it would not reset now that the update had began making it useless jsut caught in an update loop.I called tech support the girl asked a lot of questions about how I did it I felt she was trying to pin the problem on my process. Since I followed thier documentation there was nothing I did incorrect. Her final answer was that it was defective and I had to send it in. I had had it for one week.I asked about a service center and before asking where I was located she informed me the closest to me was in the Northeast Virginia I think. I told her she had not asked me where I was and she laughed and said the only one they had was that one. I asked to speak to someone more technical and she informed me she was it no one else to speak to. The steps she led me through were meaningless and the same things I had done there was nothing technical about her support.I called the shop that installed it to pull it out and send it in. They took a look and reseolved it immediately. There are two USB plugs one for the Iphone connection one for anything else. Apparently the update must be in the other USB plug after removing the Iphone connector. Nothing about this in documentation and apparently the tech support does not know this. After all this the unit is still too bright and the response speed is slow. Other problems now that I have had it for a week working the voice response is not worth using. Besides that the sound is good and the Garmin GPS is good. Although the Garmin GPS comes with intermittent adds on the screen. This is very annoying just saw this not sure if it can be turned off.But the brightness is the biggest complaint. My windows are tinted but legal nothing crazy and to back out of driveway I have to roll down my windows in any setting radio or NAV. Using the Nav Unit on night mode at night with brightness at lowest setting the cab of the car is lit up. It actually shines brightly on the back seat at the lowest setting.
Very slow mediocre gps and buggy I have been using this system for 4 months now. Sound quality is very good. However very slow in taking any input instructions takes close to 10 seconds for a source change. I have a backup camera hooked up to this HU When go to reverse right after starting the car it takes more than 10 seconds for the cameraimage to appear on the screen. In the middle of the listening to a source say HD Radio the source changes on its own to the next source i.e. CD. Very disturbing.Pandora from this unit never worked for me though my iPhone pairs up correctly and I can play Pandora on iPhone and listen to this unit on source Bluetooth.Garmin gps on this system is a joke always trailing by 2 seconds from current location. It happened many times that the GPS showed the next turn was 500 feet away even when I was right at the turn. So by following GPS I was always missing the turns. Now I am regretting buying this unit.
Buyer be ware ! I had very very I hopes for this unit and as money was not an object for my vacation truck I purchased this unit despite the heavy price tag. Unfortunetly when I recieved this item from the seller online it was defective and not working properly. I was smart enouph to read the reviews but not smart enouph to listen so I guess leason learned. The problem with my unit was that it would shut off randomely out of the blue and restart itself as if it were trying to reset. I understand that things happen and nothing is perfect but this is ware the warning comes in. I tried contacting Kenwood to resolve this issue and not only did they brush me off and tell me they could not help or change this brand new item but had an attitude about it like I was bothering them. Thank god Amazon changed it out for me Excellent Company that back up there customers by the way despite my 30 day experation. I will never ever purchase another kenwood again. I will also tell everyone I know about my experience.
Great nav system but poor hands free This system is really great concerning the navigation option and radio performance. The options for Pandora Blue tooth and other features are top notch but the hands free when trying to make a call when driving has been totally over thought. My cheap little Motorola devise worked 10 times better. It is actually dangerous trying to make a call because you have to keep looking at the screen to eventually pick out the number that you want to call then it almost never recognizes your speach to actually make the call and you then have to press the call button to dial the number. When you hit the dial button it never dials the number on the first try so you need to repeatedly press the button to make the call. The entire process of trying to make a hands free call is slow and painstakingly long. On the other hand receiving a call is great. This works well and the sound is great. I try to avoid making calls because of the lenghty and poorly thought out process to get to a number that you need dial. Hopefully someone at Kenwood will actually try to use this feature and see how dangerous it is and then try to fine tune that feature.
Man people are kind of nitpicking Kenwood. I know allot of reviewers have valid complaints. My experience so far has been it's a decent product. Still some design flaws but not nearly as slow as people make it out to be. Tings I do not like so far are the ease that I press the AUD button by accident when trying to press the pause button on the LCD to pause the music that seems to start playing after every restart of the car. really annoying but I can live with it. Also you would think after all this time that Garmin would give us a decent voice with the navi system. I can't stand it.Love the 3D and the full screen graphics of the intersection turn off. Love the BT options and the Eco add on! Love the traffic warning and it actually can avoid traffic pretty well in LA County.
Great Product I've had this system for a few weeks now and really like it. There are more inputs into this system than I will probably ever use. But I like the option of having them there should I ever want to use them. I will say the only thing that kept me from giving this product 5 stars is the fact is has a slow user interface. Kenwood released a new firmware version v1.3.0 at the time of this review that was supposed to fix some reported issues. I saw a minor improvement but not much. But don't let a slow interface deter you. I only notice the lag because I'm a tech nerd and I've owned other stereo systems Pioneer AVICF90BT to compare with. I liked my Pioneer stereo but this system blew Pioneer out of the water. The maps on the system are great because they are Garmin. In fact Kenwood is the only aftermarket audio stereo system that has Garmin maps. This stereo is also the only one on the market that can interface with your vehicle's computer to provide diagnostics of your engine. Kenwood & Garmin take advantage of your vehicle's OBDII OnBoard Diagnostics port via a bluetooth module ecoRoute. It can track your vehicle's fuel performance so you know how much fuel you are consuming. This stereo also has builtin traffic receiver. So if you have heavy traffic along your GPS route your system will try to find alternate routes to avoid the traffic! To add to this great product is a great forum. KenwoodForums.com is loaded with very knowledgeable people that can help those novice installers and experienced moders troubleshoot any problems you may incur.
