  • Unreliable. Not a good value for the $$$ I will never buy another Clarion deck after owning this unit. Sure the deck is a grand improvement on a stock deck but for the price I'd rather own a highend nondvd deck DVD being novelty in a sedan. This is the bargain barrel DVD touchscreen deck and it is not worth your time or money. The interface sucks and it is unreliable. I can't tear it a new arsehole though without giving it some positive feedback though so here are some pros.PROSSounds better than a stock deck. Builtin Bluetooth mic works well for phone calls. You can watch movies on it when it lets you. Inexpensive for a DVD touch deck.CONSAUDIO QUALITYThe first next thing you will notice is the lack of midrange frequency in your audio primarily where vocals are heard. You can turn up the bass and treble but there are no controls for Mid. So basically everything is thumpthump crashcrash and nothing in between. Songs I love to listen to at home and via headphones sound totally different and unremarkable through this clarion deck. It's probably good for rap and hiphop but sounds like junk when playing rock or anything complex or melodic. The next thing you'll notice is the sub woofer volume if you own a sub. The range is from 0 7. The difference between 0 and 7 sounds like it should be the difference between 2 and 3. This is not a drastic or usable tool at all. I just keep it at 7 all the time. Dialing in the sub woofer isn't easy on this deck either as the controls are poorly documented and there is no section on dialing in a sub.ANNOYANCESYou will first notice this with the clunky behavior with iTunes. I got the separate iPod cable installed extra $50 and the interface is horrible. I'd much rather use the iPod itself to navigate music. I usually only use Pandora and that hardly interfaces at all so I use my phone to navigate anyway. The unit prefers bluetooth as an audio source so if you are using the ipod dock cable and have bluetooth turned & autosync turned on it will play out the dock cable for 2 seconds when you start your car then turn off and switch to the bluetooth source once it connects. This means turning your car off and back on leaving your phone/ipod plugged in you have to change the source every time you start your car back up. This is very annoying. Also turning the screen off at night is a great feature.
Clarion Vx401 Before buying this i browsed way too many different sites and products while in my search to find a touchscreen receiver for my car. This clarion had the most bang for the buck with built in Bluetooth ipod compatibilityetc. The touchscreen is responsive easily visible and easy to navigate through while driving. I would recommend this to product to anyone.
warning Bluetooth on this item I have been a fan of Clarion since early 2000. What a disappointment. They really let people down with this product. I sti have mine in my shop under a bench. This is where this unit belongs. Bluetooth features are horrible at best. Firmware in unit is subpar. Pioneer Alpine Kenwood are better options. Trust me on this I am an enthusiast and unfortunately they came up very short when they made this product.

Over all ok After reading all the mixed reviews of the VX400 I went with the newest model out on the market the VX401. My husband installed the unit in our 04 Tahoe after buying an aftermarket wiring harness one thing we have found out is because of the On Star this requires an expensive harness we went with a lesser one because I have choose not to use the On Star feature with my truck. The features are simple and the menu screen is easy to nagivate. The intergrated microphone is great and BT works great!!! We are still in the process of linking the rear factory DVD to the front player I will update as we progress. If you are looking for navigation though go with another model this one has the capabilities but the expansion kit is very expensive.Over all this radio has done everything I have wanted I wanted a BT intergrated radio touch screen and a good radio. I don't have satellite radio or any high tech equipment I just wanted the cool simple things in a radio. I hope this helps. I am happy with my choice and will be enjoying the radio for awhile.

Do you like your movies Squashed or Cropped? The VX401 is for you! I bought the Clarion VX401 from Amazon in February 2011. Its predecessor model VX400 had lots of decent reviews on Amazon so I bought the 2011 model VX401 hoping it would be just as good or better. Our family car has headrestmounted monitors for the second row passengers. The VX401 seemed like a good device for queuing up movies for our pintsized passengers to watch in the rear. The user interface is woeful especially if you are trying to navigate the menus using the handheld IR remote control and the DVD aspect ratio choices are unforgivably bad. The VX401 is back in the box now and headed back to Amazon for a refund.Thankfully I did a trial setup of this unit on a workbench BEFORE bothering to install it in our vehicle. My workbench test of the VX401 was as follows. A portable 12volt power supply Jump & Carry JNC660 supplied power to the head unit through the Clarion wiring harness. The black Ground wire was connected to negative terminal the yellow BATT and red ACC wires were connected to the positive terminal. At that point the VX401 was powered on and the grassgreen BRAKE wire was connected to negative terminal to bypass the parking brake DVD interlock. I inserted a DVD with standard testpattern images to check aspect ratios. The La Ratatouille test pattern image on the Pixar T0Y ST0RY 3 DVD could not be displayed properly on this unit. There are only 2 aspect ratio settings on the VX401. Under the 169 setting the test image was squashed unnecessarily with too much letterbox at top and bottom. All 3 yellow rectangles in the test pattern were visible but a circular portion of the test pattern was displayed as a flattened ellipse. Under the 43 setting the circle looked OK but the entire test image was cropped only showing 2 of the three yellow rectangles in the test pattern. Indeed when the DVD movie was played the characters in the movie were Squashed letterboxed in 169 mode and Cropped in 43 mode.
If buying for BTAudio beware I purchased this item for two features. 1 Bluetooth audio streaming and 2 video inputs for my HKS CAMP 2. While the device technically fulfills both my needs it goes about doing it in the most nonsensical manner possible. Unlike other aftermarket and even OEM stereos that support BTAudio this unit does not have it listed as an input. It will do it but it requires you to navigate through several menus to access it after every boot up of the device. It will also discontinue playing your audio if you leave the bluetooth menu screen to do anything else with the headunit. If you're looking for something that will allow you to hop in your car and play your music from your phone or other bluetooth enabled media player with no hassle look elsewhere. After discovering this and finding no way around it I promptly pulled it out of the car and sent it back. I'm just glad Amazon was good about the return process.

    • Absolutely Amazing The Sony XNV660BT is my favorite radio yet. The display looks great! Tom Tom GPS is very accurate and I added the Backup Camera and Sirius Radio too. I love the iPhone interface. This is very easy to use and worth every penny. I was uncertain at first whether I would like that the Tom Tom Module was external. But I just installed it in my glove Box so I can eject it easily for updates. It's the best out there.
No ssues whatsoever I purchased this product 2 weeks ago from Car Toys. The package came within 3 days and was ready for install right away. I drive a 2007 Cadillac CTS so i also needed to purchase the Metra 40VW10 10Inch VW Antenna Adapter $8 Metra 992006 Installation Kit $29 and Metra GMOS10 harness $75. Everything arrived quiickly and i was ready for install within 4 days. Best Buy was backed up on appointments for a week so I reviewed the local August shops and chose Lawson's. They were fast efficient and only $125. it was done in 1 day on a first come first serve basis. The screen itself is amazing. The bluetooth is flawless and with the microfone installed up near the driver's sun visor the phonecalls are clearer than with my actual phone. The navigation has been spot on so far. I have had no issues with the maps loading or poor signal as some have suggested. You can even turn off the voice control commands and continue to listen to music or watch a movie while the GPS map displays on the screen. As far as the iPOD function there have been a lot of complaints about not being able to go to the next song without being sent all the way back to the main screen. I personally have a 30GB thumbdrive plugged into the rear USB drive. There is a cord from the back of the system running to my glove compartment where I can connect/disconnect my thumbdrive or iPOD. The Sony system allows me to play my music in the order of the playlist I created on the thumbdrive continuously without errors just by selecting the next track. The movies play loud and clear on the screen as well. DVDs look amazing and have a high resolution. After having the Sony XNV660BT for two weeks now I have yet to have any real issues only complaint is that the USB takes 1520 seconds to load when starting the car.
I'm pretty happy Okay sorry to say..but I love this head unit. Let me first say that this is the first LCD head unit I did not get stock with a vehicle though. I had a JBL premium sound LCD in my 2008 Limited 4Runner and thought it was okay. This Sony HU blows it away. Tom Tom GPSEasy to use and easily updatable on your PC. The JBL unit I had with my Toyota required me to buy a new Nav CD every year for about $270! I have owned a Garmin and place the Tom Tom far above it as well. Ease of use and features are great. BluetoothWhat a difference this one is over my last 3 systems. I mounted my microphone at the left corner of my windshield and I have yet to get one complaint on my voice clarity or volume yet. My wife even asked me if I was on the handset. Setup was easy use is too easy and I'm more pleased with this than any other I've ever used. Ipod useI saw where users did not care for this feature. I have no problem. It's somewhat slow but other than that it's a huge upgrade over anything that comes from Toyota/JBL. I am able to scroll through playlists artists and songs. I don't know how or why other users had problems..but mine works just fine. Speed between selections is my only gripe. DVDI've never had this ability and it is certainly cool. I do not use it when driving but when I installed it I did ground the E brake wire to my frame to see what happened. Worked like a charm. You don't need a kit or any of the other crap if you want to violate state and federal law.but I don't do that and neither should you! Navigation through functionsEasy. What more can I say? The remote is handy when my wife does not agree with my choice in music. Steering wheel audio functions optionalI wanted to retain my ability to use the controls of my steering wheel and did. Tacotunes sells a unit for my 2011 Tacoma that is self programing and works awesome. I strongly suggest spending extra time and money on this. You never know how much you use them until you don't have them. All in all I'm very happy.
just buy a simple stereo like a lot of people after my orininal stereo broke down i wanted to get a new stereo with GPS and vedio together so i bought this product. but the reality dont work out that way. at first everything is good. i am happy the only problem i have is sometimes the stereo got disconnected with my ipod so i have to reselect the AV mode to fix it. less than 2 month after i bought this product GPS is broken it says on the screen waiting for valid signal. it took it a long time to find the signal no kidding 20 mins and above. in some cases even after i get to my destination it's still searching how ridiculous is that. so i spend another 150 to buy a separate GPS. what really pisses me off is now even the audio now dont work right.
Great Head Unit Some Areas For Improvement I've had this installed on my car for a little over six months now and on the whole I like the Sony Head Unit. Although there are definitely some areas for improvement the unit has been working great for me overall. Here's What I LikeTomTom GPS is fantastic. This is one of the main reasons I choose this unit. If you have one of their newer portable GPS's this behaves just like that with advance lane guidance and everything.
Worst Sony product even for a loyal Sony customer Pluses+Nice looking screen+Nice sound quality but then again it may be my awesome speakersThe list of minusesfirst unit had Tomtom unit which was causing the rest of the head unit to freeze and be unresponsive.replacement GPS unit stopped working 2 months after professional installationwithout possibility of exchange after 1 monthvolume knob does not work if you spin it normally. you have to pull or push it while turning to get the inputscreen recognizes the input by changing color on the button but does not execute your commandswiping to switch songs requires a swipe of the entire screen. can cause callus on finger if you keep doing it. just use the remoteBluetooth mic is garbagetakes Sony car stereo 4 minutes to recognize a new Sony mp3 player plugged into the USB. Always starts from the first folder. Unsat.updates on the TomTom freeze constantly connected to a new Sony VAIO laptop. Unsat.limited updates on TomTom and this is supposedly the top of the line? C'mon give us the free updates like you do with cheaper models. You WILL see GPS SIGNAL UNAVAILABLE quite often even on clear days.takes you back to the top of the folder list when you turn it off and on more than 50% of the time. Just remember which song I left off please! I think it's worse if you have it hooked up to a USB source.used to detect my Bluetooth Android phone instantly. Now I have to manually make the unit search for it which is annoying while driving stickshift. Eventually it finds the phone but I have no idea when it will.can't change folders with the remote which is all I really need since the unit won't remember which folder I last listened toGPS menus are so strange. some can go back to the upper level some you need to select something to get all the way through the menu and back to normal.Bottom line Bad partnership between TomTomapple please make a car nav/stereo. I have always bought Sony instead of Apple but this is the biggest let down for this once loyal customer.
Excellent Navigation Unit I have this unit installed in my Audi A6. Originally I planned to install it myself. That was foolish. I ended up paying a local place to do it for me and I'm very glad I did. It is a very intensive install especially with all the accessories Steerwing wheel control hookup/programming powered antenna GPS unit Ipod control etc Anyway about the unit.If you are looking for a NAVIGATION unit indash you will not find a better one. This is a true TomTom unit and is accordingly amazing. The fact that there is a standalone GPS unit you put into your glove box so you can pull it out and bring it inside to update is awesome. The DVD/Video function is beautiful the screen looks great and the integration while driving in GPS mode is seemless. The cd/mp3/radio/usb all work great and the head unit sounds amazing. I had the Bose stock system and it sounded great this upgrades the sound dramatically. Even my radio clarity has gone up very unusual with aftermarket for German cars. The iPod control that everyone seems to incessantly complain about is indeed slow. In fact all menus are a tad slow. However if your primary concern for a radio is for it to function exactly like your iPod then buy an Alpine. I would also recommend not buying a GPS. However it does work fine if you don't feel the need to constantly change the song yourself. Make a playlist and let it play. Put it on shuffle whatever. The only reason I'm dedicatig so much space to this is that everyone who reviews this unit this seems to be there biggest complaint and they give it a bad rating because of iPod integration. Silly. Even better idea. Put your entire playlist on a USB drive and plug it into your USB port in your glovebox that attaches to the unit and play off of that and don't bother with dragging your iPod along. If you insist on using your ipod realize that your ipod is not controlling the head unit. The head unit is using the ipod and plan playlists accordingly. For me specifically I only use playlists in my ipod or I play whole albums.
Very Very Good The Sony XNV660bt is an excellent purchase for your money.I gave the Sony XNV660bt four stars because HD radio is not included.
When it works it's amazing! I bought a refurbished unit and after installing it quickly discovered hardware problems. The navigation worked 10% of the time and otherwise had blinding white lines on the screen. I sent the unit in to be repaired because they were out of replacements and they sent it back still broken. I sent it back again they sent it back MORE broken! I don't have to tell you how frustrating it was to install/uninstall this thing every time tech support was lazy. I finally raised hell and they sent me a brand new unit after some of the longest holds and transfers ever. And it is awesome! It has lane notifications road color options for day and night different voices speed limits everything. The only thing it doesn't have is traffic which I believe you can pay for separately. I like TomTom much better than Garmin personally which is why I bought this device. I think though that Sony is discontinuing this unit and future units because of multivendor problems. The bluetooth is seamless with my phone both calls and music. I can stream Pandora from my phone. Until the latest update on my Android it showed all song information rooted phone works. With my ipod via USB cable sold separately but cheap it is easy to use unless you want to change albums and then you have to start at the top menu. AM/FM radio text rotates with only a few characters at a time but that's a product of radio technology.Good use of screen space and text placement overall. I definitely like the volume dial although it's slow because it's still controlled digitally and quickclick for turning it off and switching between music and nav. I feel that when first using a new device like this your probability for accidents goes way up but now that I'm used to it the navigation makes me a safer driver. Overall higher quality sound and more features than my stock unit.
Garbage!!! I received the Sony XNV660BT in July for a birthday gift. I had it installed and it worked great for about a month. After that it went downhill FAST! Here it is six months later and I am paying to have it uninstalled AGAIN to send back for repairs AGAIN. The first GPS wouldn't get a signal. I had just the GPS and antenna replaced that time. After putting the new GPS and antenna in it worked for one day then quit working again. Also at that time the touch screen started to have lines across it and it quit responding to touch commands. I paid to have the entire unit uninstalled and sent back. They repaired the unit and sent it back to me. I paid to have it installed again. I drove off and the GPS now will sometimes get a signal but it loses it quickly and the screen goes from color to black and white plus only half the screen will respond to touch commands. I now am getting ready to pay to have the unit uninstalled again only to send it back in to have it repaired again. I am done with Sony I want my money back and I refuse to EVER purchase another Sony product again. Do not bother with this product you will be very disappointed.UPDATE 1/24/2012I am now on my 4th GPS unit and sending my entire unit back AGAIN for repairs. Sony REFUSES to replace my unit. I was informed yesterday on the phone that they will ONLY continue to repair the unit until they are no longer required to due to the 1 year warranty expiring. Horrible customer service. Terrible product. I've even had the install verified by another installer just to ensure that it was done properly which it was. Sony refuses to stand by their crappy product instead they screw over their customers stating they repair their inferior products. Don't waste your time don't bother with their products.

good radio this is a good radio dvd ipod handfree i just love this sync wants you get in the car when you call you are calling right from the bluetooth dvd look great back up camara nice and easy to intall.i have it about sence december 2011 its april and its still like the first day.
Great product for the price! I've had this unit for a few days now and can't express how happy I am with my purchase. Does everything its meant to do with average quality and performance which is more than you could ask for at this price. No hiccups whatsoever during installation and use.
what are the exact dimensions what are the exact dimensions of this on this product? on the amazon website it says its 7x10x10. i think that would be just a little to wide so I'm hoping its a typo. also does anyone know if you can play music through the blue tooth mode or is it just for calling.
Good Product not so great support Installed it on Honda Pilot 2006 EXL. Product itself is pretty good except the dim screen. All features seemed to work well. For the price it has a lot of features. Here is my list of troublesAll the wiring diagram / installation instruction is the printed sticker on top of the unit. That's it. No separate description explanation of what and where each wire connects to. Among other things there are three wires SWKey1 SWKey2 and SWGround with no explanation of what it does or how it can be used.Tech support is of very limited quality. Request for the information on several wires was a single one line reply for an incomplete information. Repeated requests for the clarification has not been answered.Button design on the remote needs more work. They should really try and use it before making the product.
Sub out At first i was very pleased with this product.. after installation i found out the the sub out put only works with the radio. Tried to contact pyle since i was told i have a manufacturing war. but unable to get any answers or service. I have 4 12 woffers that are doing me no good since i have no sub out audio except the radio. so i do not recommend Plye to any future customers at this point.
memory card size Hey I was wondering.what's the largest size memory card or usb I can use? I was wondering if I can use a 32gb micro sd card.
Low sound I have had this product installed for about one week. You may need dash kit for this as my bracket on my Mazda 2002 Protege did not work well and the dash kit supplied had the the head unit sticking out. I do not have an amplifier and only two door speakers and the sound is low. I will need to purchase one and a sub woofer for a better sound.
not worth it it was working for a while then i have to return it after a week due to the malfunction of the touch screen. sounds is not that good also.. better to spend a little more money to the product that will not give you trouble than spending money for nothing.. i end up buying a pioneer and happy with it.
Good Unit After careful review I decided to purchase the Pyle PLDN74BTI through Amazon for installation in a 2007 Ford F350. The installation went ok.. I purchased an installation kit in advance and had to modify it to fit this stereo but once I did everything else went well. I agree with other reviewers that the user interface could be more appealing perhaps and should exclude items that the radio doesn't have i.e. navigation TV etc.. The power from the radio and the sound quality on the OE speakers is excellent. iPod interface is also quite good. Still testing other features but overall satisfied thus far.

      • Awesome but . . . . There is not much to NOT like about this radio. Screen is beautiful buttons are sturdy plenty of feature easy to install. I have a backup camera hooked into this device and that works flawlessly also. You can customize your sounds quite well also. I LOVE having all my music on one SD card. I never have to switch disks again. My only complaint about this unit is how you browse music in folders on the SD card. Very amateur. I hope there is an update soon for this.
Fantastic! I LOVE this radio unit. It completely upgraded the interior of my car. I have a 1999 Toyota JBL system with speakers and with this new receiver they sound better than some newer factory upgraded systems! With this head unit my sound system sounds 100 times better than the JBL Synthesis system that came with my 2005 Toyota Avalon Limited. Don't get me wrong the Avalon has an amazing system but the Solara sounds noticeably better. I would definitely recommend this Pioneer receiver.
        Good Stuff
Excellecent indash for the price. This indash is excellent from the background settings to the equalizer. You can change the background to whatever color you want to adjusting the sound quality of your system. It has wayyyyy to many options on adjusting sound which is a good thing. I got this dash for my 2003 mustang and it is perfect. Touch screen is very responsive I can't think of any other drawback except for the remote which you can purchase online at amazon. The indash was so clean that somebody sadly stole it out of my car haha. So please people remember to have a very good alarm system because some idiot teenagers are out there and once they see this indash especially at night they will probably want it for their crappy car and hand me down system. It illuminates so bright at night so I recommend turning the face off when you drive at night. Theres a button on your deck where it turns the screen off but you can play music still.
looks hell sick on my ls damn i was lookin for something that make my ls look better takin out the stock 6cd player.lookin n lookin for a new deck and guez what i found the pioneer avhp3200dvd saw some pic of this deck man this think look soo sick i had to get it for my ls man i just had to get a kit to make it fit got my kit from bestbuy i order this deck from amazon it was good price.got it install on my car it look soo sick i love it i just a need a system to have a nice sound on my ls.
TSgt Simp Took only about 30 minutes to install myself in my Acura MDX. I already had the harness and Double Din installation Kit..Very Fluid in commands and transition from one mode to another. Unlike the Sony XAV60worst double din deck ever. Only regrets was not getting the BT model for bluetooth capabilities . Also having the Ipod coonnection in the front is this product only CON.For DVD play while drivingpretains to all Pioneer models it is easy to bypass the safety restraint. I literally did it on my lunch bareak at work one day which included running to Advance Auto to purchase a 12 volt relay switch and coming back to wire it up.
Pioneer avh Bought this as a gift for my father for Christmas. He had it installed in his car and it looks amazing!!! Although I ordered after Christmas it still arrived in good time frame.
After 1 year still great I have this in my F250 and I bought it for it's dual zone capabilities. I run a separate flip down screen for the backseat so they can watch a movie while I listen to the radio up front. I built and installed a parking brake bypass so I don't have to stop the truck to start or switch movies for the backseat.I have a 2 gig usb flash drive loaded with mp3's plugged into the usb port on the unit. Using the touch screen you can search through the files and select songs or let it play on random. It's great. You can also use any picture as your back ground display.viewing pics with the SD card slot is pretty slow.
Pioneer AVH dash doubledin dvd player I bought this for my husband for christmas and he LOVES it. The picture quality on the screen is excellent when playing DVD's it improved the sound quality of his sound system. The USB port in it is really helpful you can put music and movies on the USB drive and plug it straight into the front I would recommend the mini ones because they are short and you wont accidently hit it or jam it they sell them on here also.

      • Great in my WRX I bought this set because I wantedMp3/Ipod abilityDouble DINBlue Tooth for my phoneReasonable looksFor the money you can't beat this unit it fit great in my 2002 wrx though I had a professional install it and he ended up needing to add a wiring harness to it for the connections. I keep the iPod cord in my glovebox which seems to work just fine. Bluetooth connectivity works great once you get it sync'd up with your phone which took the installation guy and I about 45 minutes. It is the least intuitive operation I've ever had to perform on a radio. The sound quality is really good but people sometimes say that they can hear my road noise which probably has more to do with my car's crappy sound insulation. The MIC was installed up by the driver's side visor and people can always hear my clearly. By the way my phone is a Samsung Rogue for Verizon though i'm upgrading to the Droid Pro later today so I'm keeping my fingers crossed I can get it to work. The sound was fairly flat at first with NO bass. It took me a few minutes with the manual to adjust the bass and treble. I am not an audiophile and was a little intimidated by the INCREDIBLE amount of adjustment you can make to the sound. After fiddling with three different types of bass a bunch of treble settings I finally got Muse to sound good. In fact I'd say those stock speakers have never sounded so good.Definitely would recommend this to anyone looking to have a great sounding double DIN unit with all of the functionality I've described. You simply can't beat the value of this quality per dollar I had no interest in spending $800 for a fancy touch screen one that would clam up in cold new england weather and be stolen within a week Boston street parking sucks.
Probably gave me a stress ulcer. All I wanted was a stereo to replace the stock stereo in my Ford Truck because the stock stereo has no inputs on it.This looked like a good option I had Best Buy perform the installation.A year later my truck lost battery power and after jumpstarting it the stereo is now locked. The manual says NOTHING about the PCODE prompt. The internet says that the system is locked due by the antitheft system and must be unlocked by Best Buy.The *ONLY* people this antitheft system harms are people like ME legitimate customers.I will never buy Clarion again and I am extremely upset.I would have been better off keeping my STOCK radio at least it WORKS.
A Note About Bluetooth Auto Connect Several folks have commented about Bluetooth auto connect issues particularly that the unit automatically switches to Bluetooth as soon as the phone connects interrupting the source that you had been listening to.There is another alternative with Bluetooth connectivity. If you set up Bluetooth for the phone only not audio then the autoconnect will not occur every time you turn on the phone. You can turn your phone on and continue to listen to the current source. If you get a call it will automatically switch to Bluetooth. Of course this won't help much if you're planning to use your phone as a music source. The reason the HU automatically switches to Bluetooth when you connect your phone with Bluetooth audio enabled is that it views it as a new audio source that you want to listen to now. It works exactly the same way as it does if you connect a USB device or insert a CD.Hope this helps clarify the issue.
Solution for Autoconnect Issues on iPhone 3Gs Granted you have to jailbreak your phone I recently did it to get tethering this solution really makes the hands free worth while. After jailbreaking download Bluetooth Profile Selector by Ramon de Klein. Evidently this app was created specifically to solve the problem of interfacing with a car kit via A2DP. Anyway just find the entry for your CX609 and disable A2DP. This will prevent the auto running of the iPod Pandora etc.
Difficult with iPhone 3GS At first I was having issues connecting my iPhone 3GS unit. If you are connecting an iPhone 3GS while in Pairing mode use the WAIT and have the iPhone search for the CX609. If you do this you should connect flawlessly every time. I can't get the Phonebook to upload from the 3GS to the head unit.Make sure if you have upgraded audio that you use ground wires or else you'll hear a whiney high pitch sound through the speakers when your car revs.ProsColor OptionsBluetooth builtinAudio over Bluetooth via iPhone awesome!Ability to charge iPhone 3GSAbility to edit names of stereo stationsAuto Answer in 5 seconds of incoming callAuto Connect Bluetooth when getting into car.
Bad compatibility with iPhone After an update to iOS 5 I can't hear songs using bluetooth on this device.Besides that the internal mic is very very bad. I do not recommend this product at all.
A lot to offer great looks and interface at a good price. I've had this installed now for a few months.INPUTSI love all the source options. My own very old B&W LCD screen Ipod is not compatible with the USB input but I can use it with the Aux input for now until I get a more up to date Ipod/IphoneI have a 16GB Thumb drive attached to the USB input in the glove box and that's a great alternative though you don't get all of the Ipods shuffle features in fact you get nothing but skipping songs or albums by folder via manual controls.ErgonomicsThe interface of this unit is excellent it takes no time to get the hang of things quick and easy to adjust. with one exception! The biggest negative I have is that the tone controls like bass and treble are pretty deeply buried in the EQ settings. One must press several buttons just to get to the frequency adjustments. For an actual EQ this is not problem as we would want to set and forget it. if we truly know what an EQ is for however with so many different source options and our various music tastes I feel that simple easy to reach Bass and Treble adjustment should be available on all head units. Sadly this seems to not be the trend these days. I can hardly hold it against the Clarion since this is the norm. Many complain that the set up for the Blue tooth is difficult and thus they rate the interface and manual poorly. I have not yet tackled Bluetooth owning no BT devices as yet. so I can't comment there but taking that aspect out of the equation I find this is an easy set of controls to get along with. I have to deduce based on other reviews that the only weak point is the Bluetooth set up and instructions.Update! Bluetooth.I have set up the Blue tooth Audio function fro my Android Samsung Galaxy SOnce connected the functionality is superb. Audio quality is low however and not recommended when we can use the Aux input instead.
Great unit unless you have upgraded your Iphone I did a lot of research before ordering a head unit for my GMC Canyon. It was between this and the Pioneer. My brother has this same unit in his car so I went over and tried it out and everything worked perfect with my iPhone 3GS. I got the unit today installed it and was very disappointed after I noticed it wasn't working correctly with the iPhone. Turns out that I upgraded to the new OS4 last week and I cannot go back to the old OS. The blue tooth does not auto connect. It does not recognize the ipod gives different error messages.
Decent Bluetooth Car Stereo The Good Bluetooth works well with my iPhone The forward skip and backward skip now work with iOS 4.2 and greater Understated design does not attract attention Nice volume buttonThe Bad The stereo automatically connects to the audio bluetooth signal of my iphone when I start the car even when the radio was the last thing I was using.
Helpful Review Great Unit First I want to say this is a really nice unit once you figure out the menus. I love how the dashlights make this unit look like it is stock. It is simple to operate once you get done setting it up.If you have been reading these reviews you already know the instructions are terrible. Ahelpful hint for the setup menus In most menus there are general settings and customsettings the general settings are limited and only give you a few select choices. It took awhile to figure out that the costume user settings are separate.Bluetooth settingsIt took a little work to get this to link to my phone the pairing code is 1234 after 4 or 5attempts I let the unit find my phone and had to put the pairing code in on the phone side. Itworks great and people can't even tell I am in my truck. I could not upload the phone book inthe usual way but I researched and found out a way to do it and it actually worked! if thephone disconnects when you try to send the phone book try thisFirst on the Unit follow the instructions until the unit says it is receiving the phone book. Then go to the contacts list in your phone and go to options there is an option called sendname card Select this option then select Bluetooth then in the contacts list select markall then it will show you devices that can receive the phone book select CX609 I couldn'tbelieve it actually worked.IpodI have a huge amount of music which makes it a little harder to navigate because you can't scroll like you can on the Ipod. However if you press the band button and select your search option Artist Album Playlist ect then hold down the display button for a second you will be able to choose a letter to start your search. that is a lot better then scrolling slowly though hundreds of artist. once you get used to the controls it works pretty well.I would give this unit 5 stars if it could activate the voice command on my phone.

Boss bv9993 This in dash DVD player is very good for the price excellent sound and clear display but have NOT a buildin Bluetooth and the touch display is not so good also have support for upgrade for TV anyway is worth for the price.
Wow for the price I paid for it it stop working in 2 weeks. The tv screen was stuck. It was just horrible.
A decent touchscreen car radio for a low price. I was looking for a new radio to replace my old stock for my 2001 hyndai sonata. I was researching for a month at least. I just could not decide whether I should save 50 dollars and get a 1 DIN after class radio that has the standard things that I would need or go all out and get what a really wanted which was a 1 DIN pull out touchscreen like the one in my dad's truck. I could have gotten rid of the storage space and put a 2 DIN touchscreen but I decided against that because 1 I wanted the storage space very much. And 2 I didn't want people seeing that I had a touchscreen in my dash or else they'd be very tempted to steal it. So in the end I settled on this radio. The Boss BV9993. It has ALMOST all the features I wanted in a touchscreen. Everything EXCEPT navigation. When I was looking up the features I asked over and over again if it was navigation ready and never received an answer. Well for all who are wondering.

        • Great screen but Bought the in dash DVD and installed it in my 2007 Chevy Avalanche. Hooked it up with headrest monitors and a back up camera. Quility of the screen graphics were very good. Quility of the audio were also very good. Bluetooth audio was great and others were able to hear me loud and clear. Navigating through the programs was much more difficult than the stock OEM stereo. Changing from radio to DVD did not seem naturally easy. Also while watching a movie the audio was in surround sound mode which sounded great but when my wife and I wanted to have conversation in the front seat we could not turn off the surround sound so we faded the speakers to the rear only. This solution does not work because the surround sound is edited so the voice audio comes from the front speakers. So you cannot fade the speakers to the rear speakers only with any movie that has Dolby Surround and hear the voice audio. After the system was in for about 3 months the screen went black. Power was getting to the head unit because I could load and eject a DVD disc. Ended up uninstalling the head unit and sent it to Sony to service. Apparently when they bench tested it there was no problemof course!. They just cleaned it up and shipped it back to me. Now this was really upsetting because of the cost professional paid to remove the unit cost of shipping it insured to Texas cost to reinstall etc.. And they could not reassure me that it would not do it again. All they could offer me is that if it broke again they would pay for the shipping. This does not help me with the installation costs and the headaches of the replacement. Very disappointed with Sony service. Expected them to replace the unit if they could not repair it. Spent extra money on Sony instead of a Boss or other value brand for this reason.
nice product this is the 4th double din in dash dvd stereo that I have owned and it is by far the best. I have owned Boss units before and they are dismal at best. this unit has nice interface and great sound! the only complaint that I have is that it responds really slow when you're using iPod controls.
Great hardware hampered by software The hardware is great. Other than the installation screws being too short the installation was about as painless as it could be the display is nice and very flashy and everything feels very solid and well built. The sound is good too I'm no audiophile but I'd say it sounds marginally better than the factory radio. The problem is that all this great hardware is weighed down by terrible firmware. Everything involving an animation is very slow to execute. Unfortunately this includes some of the most basic things including changing radio stations or making a call. For example because the unit hides the playback menus after a few seconds you have to first press the screen to get the menu to slowly animate their way into existence and then press the presets button to slide the presets into existence and then finally press the preset that you want. It's only maybe 5 seconds but that's an eternity when you're hurtling down the freeway and compared to most other systems. If you look at some of the demo videos from Sony on this unit they generally avoid showing the animations but you'll see the slowness when they do. This unit would really benefit from moving the tuner/seek buttons into hardware.
Great for DVD/CD..but the iPOD interface is lacking I'm a long time fan of Sony products and this unit fits my need of a Double DIN DVD receiver that doesn't include navigation. I love this unit for what is does but it has one MAJOR flaw. Sony's implementation to control an iPOD is basically unusable if you have a large music collection. I have a Gen 5.5 video iPOD with over 2700 songs. For this reason I will not be keeping this beautiful piece of equipment.STRENGTHS Gorgeous LCD display. Better than the ones I've seen in any Alpine & Pioneer. Fit finish build quality is very good. The motorized mechanism is precise and smooth. Accessories like a microphone and wireless remote are included. Flawless DVD playback and operation Flawless CD playback and operation Decent AM/FM tuner sensitivityWEAKNESSES Slow user interface. The touch screen menus are designed clean and simple which is typical Sony. However the interface is awkwardly slow. So slow it requires you to take your eyes off the road longer than what I would consider safe. Awkward wireless remote. The most commonly used buttons such as volume are awkwardly located on the bottom of the remote. It should be within easy reach of your thumb.
Great for the price! To start I really don't like Sony. I have been installing car stereo systems for along time and most of there stuff is complete crap. I was about to buy a Pioneer but after reading tons of reviews it lead me to this deck. So after lots of research about this deck I bought it. Every review said it was good except iPod use and Sirius radio. I don't care about Apple products so I bout it. The Bluetooth is awesome! The audio streaming sounds great and the phone features are top notch. The screen is really clear and DVDs look almost HD. The SenceMe is actually pretty cool for music on the USB flash drive. The sound quality for music and phone is really clear and tons of features to tweak the sound to your liking. My only complaints for this deck is lack of Divx support and I wish the screen was a little more sensitive. I have tons of Divx movies and with the Pioneer decks you can just drag a movie to a flash drive and watch it on the deck. With this thing you have to convert it to a special MP4 to be able to view it and even after converted it is very flaky. So I plan on using a external Divx player to plug into the AUX port. Other than that the Deck is awesome and the first Sony car audio product I really like.
GREAT DASH MINOR COMPLAINTS i dont usually write reviews but i figure id give this unit a try. i received this unit within 3 days of ordering which is pretty awesome considering i live in hawaii and it was free!.i have a 2010 tacoma and had installed a sony single din a couple of months ago and realized i wanted better. i went with the sony xav 70 primarily because of the bluetooth capability which brings me to my first complaint. the description says the bluetooth is builtin which is only half true. they provide you with an external mic which you have to mount where you desire. some might think this is a good thing but for others it's just another hole to drill.bluetooth syncing is fast maybe 5 seconds after it's powered on. audio streaming sounds just as good as a CD. i havent heard any complaints about my voice on the other end of a call either.the connected USB adapter is great. this cable is built into the back of the unit so you will need to find a way to run it through your dash or whatever.this unit does lag a little. sometimes pressing the screen does nothing so you feel the need to press harder. nothing too crazy though. patience!the dvd playback was tricky.
Dangerous Interface while driving I cannot express how disappointed I am in this unit. The user interface looks like it's out of the 80's and more to the point it is so painfully slow that it's actually dangerous to use while driving. The touchscreen was a great idea that is if it actually worked. I expected it to be fast like our itouch and ipad not even close this thing is prehistoric by comparison. Half the time I touch the screen to do something change radio station dial a number forward track on the itouch it takes so long to think about what I have done that it just does nothing! I end up pressing the same touchscreen button half a dozen times to just get it to function. Then because it takes so long and you press the button several times to get it work when it finally decides to work you end up inadvertently hitting another button which you don't want to hit which appears for the next screen. Talk about frustrating I literally have to pull the car over to change albums or dial out on the BT phone or it would be dangerous. This completely defeats the point for us as we primarily bought this unit for its handfrees function with our phone. Seriously who cares about the sound or video quality when basic functionality is completely lacking. I decided to write this review as I have just been scouring the internet to see whether my unit is actually broken because I couldn't imagine how Sony could release such a nonfunctional buggy product. Sadly after reading some of the other reviews it would seem that I am not alone and that this is how they intended it to be released onto the market. We bought this sight unseen based on our previously good experience with Sony products and I very much regret it. Had we seen how slow it was in a shop we would have steered well clear of it.
Sony Head unit XAV70bt This is a GREAT head unit for any car or truck!I know you will run into a lot of wieners out there. They will say it takes to long to read a 10 disk changer or it takes to long to read a thumb drive with 42000 songs on it but by the time you are backing out of your driveway the music is ready to play! The touch screen is very responsive. The Bluetoothe phone feature is very easy to link up & sounds GREAT on both ends of the call! The sound is also on of the best I have heard! You have full control over thr base and the EQ settings are very good plus you can customize any of the EQ setting to your taste The head unit was built to run windows The iPad features where an after thought.. So if you want this unit to run your iPod the head unit is VERY slow to respond and the controls are clunky! But I DO NOT nor will I ever own an Apple product! So this has no affect on me or my music or video! One last thing at system start up you get a nag scree telling you not to watch video while driving this nag screen will end in 1 min or you can just hit the OK button. This is the only thing I dislike about the head unit.
Great DVD/CD/MP3 player I love the Bluetooth audio and phone feature which let's you talk hands free and listen to music without plugging in you phone/mp3 player. The sound quality is better than any of my friends car stereos and I am still using stock speaker. Eveyone who rides in my car compliments me on the stereo. When I sell my car in a year I will be taking this stereo out and installing it in my new car.
Good receiver for what is out there. Good receiver for what is out there. Replaced a 6 CD changer in a Honda Accord with this unit. The functions of interest for me were streaming music and good sound quality. Qualitatively it is better than the Honda unit. It has more power and sounds better even through the factory speakers. I've never understood the manufacture specs for sound quality. The receiver I replaced said it was 600 Watts. Think this unit is a 52W X 4 and it blows the factory stereo away. The biggest issue during the install was that the wiring harness for the car was old and theoretically they are going to a standard for car audio wiring.
