Yamaha CDC 697BL 5 Disc Carousel Type Changer Won't Play MP3 / WMA music

  • Display Panel Impossible to Read Like many other reviewers I searched for a replacement for an old cd changer a Sony CDPC315 which finally became dysfunctional after 20 years of great service. Since the rest of my system consists of Yamaha components I tried the CDC697. Yes it is very easy to set up and begin using immediately. You should be aware however of the very poorly designed display panel. The lighting is red which makes it impossible to read from any sort of distance during daylight. Even in a darkened room the size of the images is quite small. If you want to know what the cd track is or how much time remains on the disc for example you are out of luck. The figures in my old Sony's panel are white far brighter and larger so I never had any problems reading the images from six or more feet from the changer. So unless you have incredibly perfect vision and you plan to sit no more than a couple of feet from your changer I advise you to consider another cd player.
Yamaha 5disc CD Player CDC697BL Had some difficulty figuring out that all 5 discs can be placed on carousel without moving it. Two discs are partially covered by the player. Although other reviews claim that it moves between songs faster when on random than other disc players I don't believe there is much difference. The operation of the carousel is very quiet as advertised. Sound is good as you would expect from a model with this price tag. Overall a good machine.
Thoroughly Satisfied There are plenty of technical reviews on this product that are of the same quality as this unit. Suffice to say I am on a low budget for my stereo components. Although I love my music I do a lot of research on the components I buy and I had been searching for a high quality CD player to replace the one that finally gave it up. After about six months of web research store visits and asking around everything pointed to this Yamaha. It has scores of satisfied customers great specs and is reasonably priced. Yamaha has been producing quality musical and audio equipment for a long time. This is no different. If you are on a budget and want an outstanding unit look no further. My one minor complaint is that I wish they had put a random play button on the unit itself. You can only select random play using the remote.
Merry Christmas to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First thing I do in the morning before I evenget to the coffee machine is turn on my music. My 5disc player broke found this on Amazonbought it best featurethe random buttonandlove love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd buy it again orrecommend it.
cheaply built. I have had this model for about two years and the disc carrier will no longer close! I am a long time serious listener to primarily classical music and am gentle with my equipment. The sound was o.k. but to have it built in such a flimsy manner is a shame esp. when one considers the cost.
simple but modern 5disc changer I debated getting a singleCD player that could handle mp3's but my wife and I have a decent CD collection. This yamaha is well built and works for our needs. I don't use the remote as I have tweaked the settings to my satisfaction and programmed our receiver remote to run the CD player. I like the playxchange feature so the kids can keep listening to music while we swap CDs. Also being able to adjust the output volume is a nice feature so after some experimenting I simply maxed it out so that the volume level of CD player is close to that of the iphone DVD player TV Apple TV and tuner.
Yamaha CDC697BL 5 CD disc carosel Excellent sound. Very nice error correction for small scratches. One comment. I would have liked to see controls on the main unit too. Having to use just the remote for most of the capabilities is inconvenient. Many times I can't locate the remore. A more feature filled panel on the unit would be a great enhancement.Other than that I am very happy with this model. I would surely recommend it.
Sounds good but. Sound is great. Clearly a fidelity improvement over the previous player Pioneer that died after maybe 20 years of service. The problem is it won't reliably play the assorted compilation disks that I have burned myself. I have never had any problem playing the aforementioned disks in any player e.g. the ancient Pioneer magazine style player that this unit replaced or either car player that I own. Very disappointing. The issue that others have complained about with accessing the back disks in the carousel seems like a nonissue to me.I would give this unit 5 stars if it weren't for the aforementioned play issue.
Won't Play MP3 / WMA music This is a well made unit and a good value for the money but it is not made clear in the Amazon specification page or in any of the posted reviews for that matter that this machine will only play standard music CD's it is unable to recognize or play contemporary MP3 or WMA music files. I did not find this out until I opened the box and read the instructions. I bought this to replace an older CD changer that was also unable to play these newer music files.
Everything I hoped and wanted Consumer Reports felt that this was a good buy and we purchased it for our father for Christmas. Amazon not only had a good price for it but was able to get it to me in plenty of time to get it set up for our father. All around good experience and purchase.

GREAT radio for the price! Since there were no reviews on this when I bought it I wanted to wait a few days to really become familiar with the radio before I posted one. I installed this in a 2007 Nissan Frontier 5 days ago. Here are the good and the bad that I've found on this radio so far.Bad* This is not so much as bad but slightly annoying.. the clock does not display on the radio. You have to hit the clock button on the remote to view the time and it will only display for about 5 seconds.* When you first put a CD in the radio checks to see if it's a DVD so it takes a few seconds before the CD will start to play.* I had problems with the screen not coming out all the way so ended up taking the trim off the front of the radio so I could pull it out of the dash a little more. When the screen is open you can't really tell.* If you are listening to a CD or watching a DVD and need to go back to the main screen the disc will stop playing. It does however pick up where it left off when you go back to it.* I listen to CDs a lot. In order for it to continuously play the CD over and over you must use the remote to set it on Repeat All each time you start your vehicle.Good* Sound quality is great. Much better than the factory radio.* Bluetooth functionality is awesome.
SSL Receiver I would have to say that the stereo deck was a great product for the price. I love the hands free and the rca input for the backup camera worked great. I will say that the company needs to make a correction regarding the unit playing MP4's which it does not. I converted My MP4'S to MPEG2 format and the videos I had on my SD card finally played. Overall it is a great deck and I am glad I ordered two of them for my vehicles.

    • why so many adapters for this unit what kind of adapter do u need for a mp3 player that works with this unit.
New? While item was sold as new when I received it had been resealed. There was no effort made to repackage. The plastic for manuals and item itself were just left on top of box when you opened it. I have not hooked up yet and hope item works.
Good product limited functionality. This adapter was just what I was looking for. I have had my JVC car stereo for a couple years but I wanted a more convenient method of storing and playing my music so I got an iPod and this adaptor. It was easy to install and I did not find it difficult to learn to navigate the menus on the JVC front panel. I did have one major disappointment which is the reason for the 3 star rating. Although the product manual states that the iPod will charge whenever the stereo is on when I plugged in my gen4 Nano the screen on the iPod displayed a message that this adaptor did not support charging. So my listening time in the car is limited to the internal battery life of the iPod.
      ipod connection adapter kspd100
Worst. Interface. Ever. Does not work with iPhone or Touch as many have noted.Used with the iPod models it DOES work with you will encounter one of the worst user interfaces in the history of consumer electronics. Absolutely no sorting or organization features for music of any kind no folders no playlists no sorting by artist or album. You get an alphabetical list of tracks on your device. Just start with A and if you have more than 20 songs on your iPod settle in for a few hours of scrolling through song titles to get to anything that starts with The.
Disapointed I was assured by the seller that this product would work with my radio not so.
Decent product could be better I have a JVC head unit which plays MP3's off of the CD this was great for audio books but I wanted to be able to continue the book while doing things like mowing the lawn so I bought this adapter to let me bring my books with me. The adapter itself is a bit bulky luckily my Dodge Ram has a nice spot behind and below the stereo in the dash for storing it and I was able to snake the iPod end into the cubby hole below the stereo. It was ridiculously easy to install. I struggled a bit with the interface trying to find the book I wanted stored on it the rudimentary display only gives the first 810 characters of the title but eventually figured it out not the best but I guess it's serviceable. The sound quality is really quite excellent and when you activate the iPod function on the stereo it begins playing immediately where you left off no waiting for a disk to spin up etc. But a major disappointment I came across was when my iPod ran out of battery and shut down. Apparently it does not charge my model of iPod.For the most part I'm happy with this purchase but I really do think that JVC/Apple could improve on it the bulky adapter is a nuisance but the cables are long enough to get past that The iPod end is large and could use some sort of disconnect to make it easier to fish through your dash but I got past that easily enough. The lack of charging on my iPod could force me to reconsider however.
adapter for jvc car stereo seller was prompt with shipping. The adapter was just what I neededjust as advertised. Thank you horseman rides again! I would not hesitate to buy from you again.
very cool item thank goodness this item exists cuz without it I couldn't listen to my iPod with this radio. And it works great.
Does not work with ipod Touch or Iphone I bought this item not knowing what I know now. This adapter does not work with Ipod Touch or Iphone. You can google this adapter and will find the same information.

NO WORTH IT SUCKS I PURCHASED THIS THE SELLER DID NOT RESPOND AND THE PRODUCT SUCKS IT WAS PROFESSIONALLY HOOKED UP IT FREEZES IT PLAYS SOUND WHILE ON MUTE IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME !!! DONT PURCHASE IT YOU WILL WANT TO KICK IT DONW THE STREET.
Ok Cheap unit For $200 not bad. Would suggest with caution. Has good picture and sound quality but lacks in user friendly department and set up.ConsSpent $20 on wire harness and $20 on mount kit. Also each menu section is set up deferentially which makes usability difficult.Slow load times and start up. Switching source takes about 2030seconds.Screen can be too dim during the day/too bright at nightreally needs a day/night mode.
Absolute Piece Of Junk!!! I know only one exclamation would have worked but this product only lasts Long enough for the warranty to expire then all the nightmares begin. Which by the way for me was only 5 days over. The touch screen will change and distort. The vivid color turns blurry. When in the radio mode forget about trying to use the touch screen functions the tactile area you think is designated for a preset station sends you to setup mode or another station that is on the opposite side of the screen. I thought I had lost my mind. Then I called XO for assistance and you get someone from the Phillipines whom you can't understand who will argue with you and then hang up on you when you ask to speak to someone that can actually articulate the English language. Then you go to the site for repair information and it's navigational arenas are horrific to get through so you end up calling another nonarticulate person who tells you to send the product in for repair and it will cost you the same amount as if you were buying a new product. Buyer beware! If you have money to burn in this depression then this is the product for you. Otherwise research other options.

      • BELOW AVERAGE CAR RADIO THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST PLAYERS I HAVE BOUGHT YET 2 MONTHS AFTER I HAD BOUGHT IT IT ALREADY STARTED GIVING ME PROBLEMS.
bad design my husband ordered this thinking it would be a decent not perfect alternative to our stereo in our car. the only good thing is it plays dvds and is easy to ground the wire to make it play while in drive. the screen is small so our kids whine that they cant see it. we still have not firgured out how to get the clock off of military time nor does the clock show if it is in aux. mode or any other mode other then am/fm or off. the owners manual is not helpful having VERY little information. the screen looks like a screen from a 1980's computer with the boxy green letters. seems like it should be an up to date system with the dvd player and touchscreen but has very bad design and is not user friendly. volume is inconsistent when used with an mp3 player and screen is blank when in this mode. i guess you can store pics on this. we have not tried. hope to return it anyways. dont be fooled that it will have good or even decent graphics. this came sooner than we expected so that was a plus.
Worth it Its a great product.. good quality and options.. but sadly it doesnt have a good equalizer.. only treble and Bass and its only 320W while my speakers are 1000W so i lost some of my speakers performance.. but overall..
Crap This unit seemed really cool online. It has a huge screen hookups for everything and can play DVDs. The problem is that it is horribly unreliable hard to operate and buggy as hell. When the operation manual openly states that you need to push the reset button if the unit starts to act weird you know that there is a problem. Avoid at all costs.
great stereo Great stereo for the money. the stereo sounds great the dvd player has great picture and you can load music up from a flash drive. it also has touch screen presets which are really great. there are a few things I would like to mention you can't by a dash kit for this stereo so you will have to modify your dash your self. and also it has a parking break wire so that the dvd player doesn't work while the car is in motion but that can easily be bypassed by wiring the pink parking break wire into your stereo ground wire. great stereo great price.
        need feedback
        already replaced
HELP Im looking for a radio and this looks like a decent one and for some extra bucks you get the 6.2 monitor that other radios dont have. I want to know from those who bought it how good is it for watching videos how is the menu and if the quality is good.
unfortunate They are known deceive people here in Ecuador received a rear camera instead of the radio you purchase. I do not recommend buying any products ..
Don't waste your time or Money. I bought this product for my 2002 Ford Explorer and was told it would fit just fine and it didn't had fitting problems straight away. It skips more than any other cd player I've ever had the DVD functions are good and crystal clear the on screen controls look more like something that should be on the predecessor to the Atari game system.Replacing this this asap.

        • Unreliable. Not a good value for the $$$ I will never buy another Clarion deck after owning this unit. Sure the deck is a grand improvement on a stock deck but for the price I'd rather own a highend nondvd deck DVD being novelty in a sedan. This is the bargain barrel DVD touchscreen deck and it is not worth your time or money. The interface sucks and it is unreliable. I can't tear it a new arsehole though without giving it some positive feedback though so here are some pros.PROSSounds better than a stock deck. Builtin Bluetooth mic works well for phone calls. You can watch movies on it when it lets you. Inexpensive for a DVD touch deck.CONSAUDIO QUALITYThe first next thing you will notice is the lack of midrange frequency in your audio primarily where vocals are heard. You can turn up the bass and treble but there are no controls for Mid. So basically everything is thumpthump crashcrash and nothing in between. Songs I love to listen to at home and via headphones sound totally different and unremarkable through this clarion deck. It's probably good for rap and hiphop but sounds like junk when playing rock or anything complex or melodic. The next thing you'll notice is the sub woofer volume if you own a sub. The range is from 0 7. The difference between 0 and 7 sounds like it should be the difference between 2 and 3. This is not a drastic or usable tool at all. I just keep it at 7 all the time. Dialing in the sub woofer isn't easy on this deck either as the controls are poorly documented and there is no section on dialing in a sub.ANNOYANCESYou will first notice this with the clunky behavior with iTunes. I got the separate iPod cable installed extra $50 and the interface is horrible. I'd much rather use the iPod itself to navigate music. I usually only use Pandora and that hardly interfaces at all so I use my phone to navigate anyway. The unit prefers bluetooth as an audio source so if you are using the ipod dock cable and have bluetooth turned & autosync turned on it will play out the dock cable for 2 seconds when you start your car then turn off and switch to the bluetooth source once it connects. This means turning your car off and back on leaving your phone/ipod plugged in you have to change the source every time you start your car back up. This is very annoying. Also turning the screen off at night is a great feature.
Clarion Vx401 Before buying this i browsed way too many different sites and products while in my search to find a touchscreen receiver for my car. This clarion had the most bang for the buck with built in Bluetooth ipod compatibilityetc. The touchscreen is responsive easily visible and easy to navigate through while driving. I would recommend this to product to anyone.
warning Bluetooth on this item I have been a fan of Clarion since early 2000. What a disappointment. They really let people down with this product. I sti have mine in my shop under a bench. This is where this unit belongs. Bluetooth features are horrible at best. Firmware in unit is subpar. Pioneer Alpine Kenwood are better options. Trust me on this I am an enthusiast and unfortunately they came up very short when they made this product.

Wanting to do everything I could to make it right I found this item on Crutchfield *then* ordered it directly from Amazon for half the price. Sorry CrutchfieldThe object of this little device is similar to the Bose system of automatically setting up an equalizer pattern to provide the best sound in any environment.
auto EQ great I had tried to tweak the EQ on my Pioneer MVHP8200BT to get the right sound but something was always off like too much highs or lows. I used the auto EQ and it was amazing. Everything was balanced and the mids were so much better. Why tune your EQ when auto EQ can do it for you. I'm definitely impressed.
If your Pioneer auto stereo supports this you should get it This small mike hugely improved my listening experience. Auto Equalize seems to be a Pioneer feature that works well. It is definitely worth the $25.47 with shipping that I paid for it. So far I have had my stereo Pioneer MVHP8300BT in a 2000 VW Eurovan.
Excellent Little Doohickey The CDMC20 is probably the best kept secret in the AVIC lineup. If you're not too sure how to equalize your system manually or the preset equalizations' just aren't cutting it for you then this is your answer. It comes packaged with no instructions so you'll have to revert back to your actual head units manual for specific setup instructions.Once you find your specific instructions set up couldn't be any easier. The whole process takes about 68 minutes ad must be done in a quiet environment. When finished the result is undeniable. You'll be able to toggle the auto equalization setting on and off in real time to hear the difference between your old settings and the new auto ones. It's absolutely incredible the difference you'll hear and the clarity is amazing. Now if you're an audiophile who knows how to tune your stereo this probably isn't for you and you may not get much out of it. But for those of you who have no clue definitely spend the $20.
works great short cable lost the one in my house for my receiver so had to purchase this. the cord is significantly shorter for all of you who might be looking to replace the receiver one. Radio shack/here sells headphone extension cords one of which i had laying around.
Big difference! I used this to eq my 3300BT. It was difficult to figure out but once I did the difference is amazing. Some tips from my experience.Turn key to acc and turn off fans etc. Push source button until system turns off. Plug in mic. Don't turn back on. Instead choose menu button on screen. Then choose auto eq. Note if you have bypassed parking brake the relay will not charge when off. Just temporarily ground brake wire to chassis until finished.I am a musician by trade with two music degrees and this is the best auto audio setting I have heard in my truck! Basically like having a RTA in your vehicle. Highly recommended.
AN ABSOLUTE NECESSITY IF YOU HAVE A PIONEER HEADUNIT After much deliberation I bought this for my Pioneer 3300BT head unit for my car which has about $2000 worth of aftermarket speakers/subwoofers/etc not showing off it's relevant to this review.
It does make your system sound better! I have the Pioneer 3200BT purchased in March 2010 and have loved the unit! Sound wise I had been a bit dissapointed and I knew it was mainly because I could not find the perfect EQ setting for my car much of it due to my laziness.I have the system hooked up to 12 inch Type R sub in a sealed box with an Eclipse 500wattICE powered amp all custom installed. My car lexus lx450 is using the factory speakers and its included amp.I have tried quite a many setting changes with this receiver and have never been quite comfortable with the sound. Perhaps it is because of my factory speaker/amp which played fairly loud at low volume levels i.e. having the volume indicator at 10 but without a nice amount of boom from the sub. Thus after looking at reviews and finally after a long internet struggle found this mic in stock and gave it a go.Set up was fairly simple. Ensure that your car is completely off insert key and turn until accessory power only is powering the car. Turn off all fans and ensure your surroundings are quiet.Your pioneer reciever will probably turn on. You need to now press and hold the sourcebutton and ensure a complete shut off of the system.Insert mic to the front Linein jack microphone should be placed facing forward on drivers front headrest.Turn system back on by pressing source button. You will be presented with a setup screen that if you are like me did not know existed!Scroll down and you will notice an autoeq setting. This should be lit up to allow you to press it if not ensure you car is in fact off parkedparking break applied.Select this icon. Press Start on your screen. Close the door. Walk away. From outside you will hear various Static like sound coming through your speakers at varying levels of loudness. This process takes about 68 minutes to complete. When you enter your car to look at the screen you will see an icon saying complete. Press OK. Now start your car. It may take the receiver to demo mode. No worries. Press the source button. You will notice now in the upper right corner auto eq has replaced the eq curve you had previously set and it will look flat. Now enjoy!!It sounds fantastic much better than my previous custom eq setting. I noticed that much of my previous settings were set to 0. Including bass boost 0 subwoofer level 0 fade was set to center. Sub filter set to 125 and speaker high filter also to 125hz. This is what I had set before on the crossover and was happy it remained the same.
Not worth it. I've had pioneer head units throughout the past. This unit is easy to sync and use and set up equalization. I didn't think is was really worth the money. I set my Pioneer 8300 unit to powerful equalizer and the lows mids and highs come out sounding perfect and I get enough response from my tweeters. I just raise my sub levels for a bit more bass. When using this I found the response had a lot of bass but the actual lows and mids sounded very off and unclear. I have a convertible and using the Powerful setting on the head unit keeps the sound flowing even with the top down. I even have aftermarket polk db's I put in for better sound but this equalizer just seems overated. It really isn't worth the Money. You use it once to equalize and that's really it.
didn't work for me mine didn't work made the stereo sound horrible not better waste of money for me amazon took it back. was pretty excited to only be let down..

          • not very good. I discovered the unit can not go from gps to radio. I had to turn off the unit completely and turn it on before going back to the radio. That is a bummer. The instructions says to hit the src button but does not work. I tried every button and nothing works except shutting down.Shortly after the screen has fuzzy picture after installing the unit. I am not sure how long the screen will last. Also there is no clock on the screen other than the gps screen.Other than that the features work okay for the price.
High hopes failed execution I had high hopes for this unit but I will tell you up front I have sent it back. First I'll tell you why I purchased it and then what didn't work well.I had to replace the existing failed in dash double din unit on my wife's SUV that had among other functions Radio CD DVD iPod interface Nav and Bluetooth phone interface. The requirements for the new unit as dictated by my wife in order of importance were 1. Bluetooth 2.Nav 3. Radio. If it couldn't do those three things forget it. If it could everything else was gravy.I scoured the web and stores for many hours. From all the units that met my wife's requirements I picked out the Pyle PLDD75BG primarily because of the nice big 7 inch screen and reasonable price compared to Pioneer and Sony at least. This unit is relatively new and I couldn't find one review good or bad on the web. I decided to take a chance and bought it anyway. Due to my experience I'm writing this review. The installation of the unit was normal but after that issues immediately arose. First on the Nav there were for some reason no Points of Interest POIs anywhere near my house. For instance the nearest gas station was 100 miles away. Now I live in the Los Angeles area and believe me there are lots of gas stations by my house. To make a long story short I figured out that the POI file on the SD card was missing a file for POIs in Southern California. Apparently California has so many POIs that the POI file for California is divided into POI#1 and POI#2. POI#2 has the Southern California POIs and was missing from the SD card for some reason. I Googled and found a place on the web that has repair files for Nav systems downloaded the Cal POI2 file and this glitch was fixed. I probably could/should have gotten it from the manufacturer but I'm too impatient to wait for them to figure it out.The next issue that arose is that unless you are in Nav mode no screen including the radio interface displays the time of day i.e. the clock. This is crazy. I never seen a unit of this type that didn't display the clock in most modes and especially the radio mode. There is even a clock adjustment in the settings menu but no way to display the clock anywhere except in the Nav screens. This drove my wife nuts because her default display is the radio. She only uses the Nav when needed. The last issue and the straw that broke the camel's back and forced me to return the unit was the bluetooth. Although we could hear callers fine the callers could barely hear us over interference and background noise. The best and barely intelligible sound came with the car parked engine off A/C off and windows rolled up. Anything else and the bluetooth was useless. We called both the seller and Pyle tech support.
Pyle PLDD75BG 7Inch I have just purchased this unit for the price and most of the features.I mainly purchase it for the NavigationBluetooth and the usb for playing music off of thumb drives. Radio and everything else is pretty much standard on most models that have this size of screen.Well first problem I notice that when i finally get my phone to pair with it calls were ok out going and audio is good volume but when i am talking with someone they tell me it like talking to someone in a tin can. Even when as other person had stated in his review sitting still with all closed and nothing else turned on. WHEN I HAVE AN INCOMING TEXT NOT A CALL THE SCREEN GOES WACKY AND STARTS SCROLLING FROM SIDE TO SIDE CHANGING COLORS. ONLY WAY TO CORRECT THIS IS TURN OFF THEN TURN BACK ON THIS DOESNT HAPPEN EVERYTIME BUT HAVE HAPPEN 4 OUT OF 10 TIMES I RECEIVED A TEXT MESSAGE INSTEAD OF A PHONE CALL Well the second problem is a BIGGY one as for me as I dont want to have to look down at the screen to see if I am turning on the correct street.THERE IS NO TTS TEXT TO SPEECH OF ANY KIND IN ANY LANGUAGE . IT WONT EVEN ANNOUNCE THE # STREETS THE MAPS ARE ALSO 3 YEARS OUT OF DATE.Third problem Well since my 2003 CRV doesn't have a separate clock on the dash I was under the assumption that the clock would be displayed when in stereo mode because the NAVIGATION section has its own clock from the satellite SO NO NEED SET THAT ONE IS AUTOMATIC.

            • Slick stereo for the money I started looking for a flip out screen dvd player about 68 months ago. I was pretty much set on buying something from Pyle or BrandX. I was only looking to spend 200 bucks and found a large number of lower end stereos in my price range. That is when I came across this radio in local custom truck shop. I played with it for a few minutes. I spent a lot of time playing with some lower cost Pioneer and Kenwood units. They 1 did not have all the features one would one in a unit like this and 2 they were not as smooth as their higher end units.I like this unit a lot. Not counting the reviews that involve damaged units or bad installs or other defective units most reviews are fairly accurate. It does have a clunky navigation system. But it does work. It takes it longer to reroute than my wife's nuvi or my google navigation on my phone. The basic ipod controls are better than I thought. It reads the playlists that I have on the ipod. It does not play video from the 5th gen ipod videos. But it does read videos off of the SD card slot. It will read up to an 8 gig card. The RDS works for music stations but when I listen to ESPN 980 it does not pick that station up. Setting up presets is very easy just find the station you want and hold down the preset button you want.
Great potential big disappointment I have had this unit for nearly 4 weeks and really enjoyed it. Regardless of what other reviews have said this unit is nice when it works. I love the navigation with the split screen even though the icons do look a little cartoonlike. The GPS screen is extremely informative with a fast glance. The iPod controller worked good as long as you weren't trying to control the world with it. Pay attention here *** If you connect the greenwhite wire with the pink parking brake wire you can drive illegally while watching a movie no need to buy anything and no codes to punch in since there are NO brake codes published yet for the VM9424 as of this review. This completely eliminates the nag screen. ***There is somewhat of a lag when the unit boots up but not a deal breaker. The touch screen is responsive and there are lots of configuration settings in the setup for both A/V and GPS. It could use more/better GPS voice options but good for the price. I updated the GPS to the latest firmware and it went flawlessly. New maps for this unit appear to be reasonably priced.I would have given this unit 5 stars except after only 4 weeks of use the iPod selector icon disappeared from the menu. I have a 6g Nano At first when the unit would boot up I would have static in iPod mode and would have to pause the book for 23 minutes before audio would work again. I use this unit heavily to listen to books during long daily commutes. I called tech support at 18003717725 and the guy snapped at me asking how I got that 800 #. After he leveled off a bit we went through the usual troubleshooting techniques paperclip reset change iPod cables check cable tightness etc. Since a month has nearly lapsed I'll have to RMA it and probably wait 2 months or longer without a head unit in my truck. The product has super potential if Audiovox would just QC the making of the vm9424. If I can get the iPod function working again and nothing else breaks I could give it a 3.2 stars for effort.UPDATE 10/17/11 Changed review to 5 starsThe vendor I bought the unit from cheerfully replaced it within the 30 day warranty and I have had zero troubles since. I have like it so much that I bought another one for my second car.
Great DD Navi & DVD for the money! I've had this unit for about a week now. Made a 900 mile road trip and am mostly happy with it. For the money it can't be beat. I bought the BT adapter as well and I like it. Touch screen is responsive and many options for what I can connect. Ipod mobile phone mp3 player etc. There are several cons but for the low price most of them I can live with.ProHundreds of dollars less than other units with GPSquick GPS lockgood GPS routingDVD playback is goodsound quality is goodBT for phone calls is excellent!Individually adjustable levels for all input sources.ConWhen playing music via BT A2DP it is not possible to view GPS at the same time.Ipod controls on the unit are not so good. Some older Ipods are locked out and you need to use the controls on the dash. When you use the on ipod controls on a supported ipod/iphone the dash display for song info does not update.Like other reviewers have said the touch screen is recessed. If your radio is low on the dash area you cannot see the top 1/4 of screen. Annoying when entering GPS locations can't view clock.POI search is not great. At one point my BT connectivity stopped working. Had to factory reset the unit and it repaired itself.1 heads up If you are doing a self install make sure to remove the 2 phillips head screws in the top of the unit before you mount it in the dash DVD/CD lock for shipping. If you do not discs will not load.
Review of Jensen VM9424 Good value does it all. 0 { document.getElementByIdnsPrefix + clipDiv.style.height=h+px document.
Great Unit that does it all. i was looking for a long time and i'am cheap when i comes to electronics. i re seared every unit out there in the double din nav catagory. i foud this unit to do everything and i mean everything u could want in a head unit. u can make it play pandora and u can watch dvds while driving are a huge plus. works well and takes sd card i can go up to 8 gigs of music per card. i almost went with a pionner at 2 and 3x the price then fact that i really don't like pioneer units only because u have to buy pioneer type accessory's made me choose this unit.you dont need any xtra wires or nothing install and use. navagation is good but not great it seems to be missing good grafix but that is really no big deal. i give this unit 4.5 out of 5used it for over a year with no problems other than an occasional lock up. easy reset turn on turn off only happened twice and i could tell it was most likely my user error as i issued to many commands at once.
lots of features not all of them are great but all of them work well together I bought this unit on closeout from Best Buy for $300. I was looking for a name brand allinone unit that had DVD and NAV.I considered the Pyle and Boss units but the reviews were generally uninspiring. I'm not sure I'd rate Jensen as a high quality electronics company but the name has been around awhile and I've generally had good luck with their stuff in the past.I have installed several head units in the past and consider myself pretty capable of installing them. This was bit of a challenge. First I usually replace the factory double din unit with a standard head unit and kit the kind that has a small pocket below them. This was the first time I replaced it with another double din unit.In this case I am installing into a Ford Explorer. That had two challenges first this unit has 3 rear plugs one for the standard speaker wiring power etc another for the USB/Ipod/Rear Camera and finally another for the video/audio out.
great value! all the features work great including blue tooth with adapter and back up camera with optional camera. the clock is wack you cannot set it but everything else is good. the audio controls are great video is good haven't used an Ipod but my mpe works great too. you can't beat it for the price any other model with the same functionality would cost twice as much. i would recommend to a friend.
Poor customer service at Jensen VOXX International Both Amazon and Electronic Express excelled in their handling of my order. Unfortunately once we paid to have this indash navigation system installed into the vehicle the CD player didn't work. The only option we've been given is to pay to have the brand new unit uninstalled send it back to Jensen for repair and then pay to have it reinstalled. You would think they would have service representatives in our area who they would pay to uninstall it and reinstall a brand new unit or at the very least to have a service representative in our area who could repair it without us having to incur all of these extra charges. The Jensen VOXX International Group is by far the least helpful hardest to contact company I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with and I'm sorry I purchased this brand name. Can you imagine sitting on hold for over two hours only to be disconnected because service closed for the day? I've had email discussions with them and no matter what I write no matter what questions I ask it's like they don't even read it because the only response I keep getting is something like let us know if you want to return the unit for repair or we'll go ahead and close this service ticket. I will never buy another Jensen product.
Jensen Is the best Jensen radios are the best. This is my third one and it's just gets better and better. I love how the radio is navi ready. No extra kit to buy.
Back to 5 starsmissing functions restored. UPDATED After replacing battery in car GPS Audio/BT function now work againodd.I wanted some actual road time with this model before writing a review so I could provide an accurate review. That being said I purchased the unit in June 2011 and had it professionally installed. I bought the exterior bluetooth setup AND purchased the GPS map upgrade which is 10xs better than what the factory install provides. I had the 9424 installed in my 2005 Nissan Altima SE. It was great buy.Pros Excellent sound quality with factory speakersno amp required navigation is much better with upgrade provides 3D visual of monuments and buildings and provides TTS video playback is crystal clear MP3 and USB connections provide many options for alternate music sources and the bluetooth works well with your cell phone and is clear.Con This is major. About a week ago while driving to DC the audio on the navigation AND bluetooth quit functioning at the exact same timethough the connection remains intact. I checked all the settings on the navigation and voice guidance and they are on but still no audio for either. On the the BT callers can't hear me and I can't hear them though the BT vidoe display says all is working. All other audio and video functions radio dvd MP3 CD continue to work with no problems. The installers checked it out and determined the issue is a glitch within the head unitwhich is what I suspected after trouble shooting initially myself. It will have to be replaced. For the major malfunction within 30 days I will have to rate it 2 stars.
